Carl A. Michel, age 76, of Marengo and formerly of Sunbury, Ohio, died unexpectedly on Sunday, October 23, 2016, at home following a brief illness.  On April 1, 1940, Carl was born in Jeannette, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Carl E. and Ella Mae (Noel) Michel.  He graduated from Jeannette High School.  Following high school, Carl enlisted to serve in the U.S. Air Force.  He was stationed in Germany during peace time, assisting with communications and helping to install telephone lines.  Upon his honorable discharge, Carl returned home where he met his wife to be, Margaret “Peggy” Johnson.  They were married on September 6, 1964.  Together they have enjoyed their fifty two years of marriage.  After the military, Carl began working for the Charleston Transportation Company as a sales rep, where he worked for ten years.  Around 1975, Carl and Margaret moved to Sunbury, Ohio, for him to manage the 3C Fruit Farm.  He worked there for nearly twenty five years.  Next, he worked for the Nelson Tool Company as a machinist, until he was no longer able due to his health.  An outdoorsman, Carl enjoyed working on the fruit farm, where he also hunted deer on the land.  He also fished whenever he could.  A fun loving man, everyone who met Carl quickly became a friend of his.  After a short time together, you felt like he had known you for years.  He will be dearly missed by his beloved wife, Peggy Michel of Marengo; his niece, Brenda (Dave) Sherbondy of Ligonier, PA, and their daughter, Kelsey Sherbondy of Washington, D.C.; and his brother-in-law, Elmer Keyser of Stahlstown, PA.  Including his parents, Carl was preceded in death by his son, Richard E. Michel; and his sister, Janet Keyser.  His family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, October 27, 2016 at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead.  Services honoring his life will be observed at his graveside in St. Clair Cemetery in Greensburg, PA, at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, October 28, 2016, with Pastor John Flower officiating.  Snyder Funeral Homes of Mount Gilead are honored to have been chosen to serve Carl’s family and your condolences may be expressed to them by visiting www.SnyderFuneralHomes.com.  LEO M.
