William Smartnick Sr. Obituary

William J. Smartnick Sr., 82, of Greensburg, died Thursday, March 31, 2022, in his home.  He was born May 29, 1939, in Greensburg, a son of the late Anthony and Anna (Franko) Smartnick.  Prior to retirement he had been employed by Kistler Construction Company and Eidemiller Construction Company.  He was a member of the Greek Club, Derry and was a former member of St. Bruno Roman Catholic Church, South Greensburg.  William was a musician and played accordion in a polka band for over 50 years.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by seven brothers, John, Albert, Anthony, Andrew, Edward, Paul, and Steve Smartnick; and his sister, Pauline Karazsia.  He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Betty H. (Nalevanko) Smartnick; three children, Patty Jordan, of Greensburg, William J. Smartnick Jr., of Jeannette, and Joanne Miller (Jeff), of Greensburg; six grandchildren, Eric (Roxie), Anita (Gennaro), Joel (Christina), Billy Jr., Cody (Norrine), and Noah; six great-grandchildren, Aiden, Caden, Damian, Giovanni, Jayden, and Issac; two brothers, Frank Smartnick (Laverne), and Leonard Smartnick (Betty), all of Greensburg; and several nieces and nephews.  Private funeral services were held at the LEO M.
