Warren Ciabattoni Obituary

Warren J. Ciabattoni, age 87, of Greensburg passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, February 29, 2024. He was a member of St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church.

Warren was born February 23, 1937, in Birdsboro, PA, son of the late Rinaldo and Rose (Pinti) Ciabattoni. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Henry J., and Anthony B. Ciabattoni, and his sister, Rose M. Nowotarski. Warren is survived by his sister, Dora Maurer; his loving and devoted wife of 55 years, Diane (Stewart) Ciabattoni; his three children: son Jamie Ciabattoni of Greensburg, daughter Dina Marie Ciabattoni and her husband John DeLuca of New Brighton, son Warren Ciabattoni and his wife Josie Johnson of Chicago; and his grandchild due later this month.

Warren graduated from Birdsboro High School. He was inducted into the Army, First Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kansas, before being assigned to the 7th Infantry Division, Camp Keiser, South Korea as an infantryman squad leader where he attained the rank of Sergeant E5.

After he was released from the U.S. Army, Warren attended the Pennsylvania State Police Academy. Upon graduation, he was assigned to Troop A Headquarters in Greensburg. He served in the State Police for 33.5 years, a career that culminated with the Pennsylvania State Trooper of the Year Award in 1995.

His service to the community continued in retirement. He served as Chaplain of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 33, Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus, President of the Dante Alighieri Lodge 244 of the Italian Sons and Daughters of America, and National Vice President of the ISDA. In 2021, he was named “Man of the Year” by the National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame for his contributions to the Italian American community.

A man defined by duty and worthy of every accolade, Warren was proudest of the gift he leaves behind, his family.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 PM Saturday, and 1 to 3 PM and 5 to 7 PM Sunday, at the LEO M. BACHA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 516 Stanton Street, Greensburg.  Prayers will begin at 12:30 PM Monday in the funeral home, followed by a funeral mass to be celebrated at 1 PM in St. Paul Parish, Greensburg.  Interment will follow in Irwin Union Cemetery with Full Military Honors accorded by the VFW Post No. 33, Greensburg Honor Guard.
