Thomas S. "Mudge" Katonka, 83, of Greensburg, died Tuesday, July 13, 2021, in Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg. He was born Aug. 31, 1937, in Hannastown, a son of the late Frank and Mary (Kerila) Katonka. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joseph and Helen Gaskey; four sisters, Marie, Frances, Margaret and Rosemary; brother, Frank; and his grandson, Scott Michael Katonka. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Maryann (Gaskey) Katonka; three sons, Tom, Scott and Steve "Toni"; and his grandchildren, Stephen, Eddie, Annie, Katie, Tommy, Sara, Kristin and Daniel. He served his country as a Marine with honor. He was the proud founder and owner of Trim-Rol Building Products in Greensburg for more than 27 years. He enjoyed all sports, especially baseball, and he played and managed the Family Bar Softball Team for many years in the 70s. In addition, he served as a board member in the Greensburg Merchant Softball League. He was a lifetime member of the Hannastown Social Club and Roosevelt Social Club. Besides attending all of his grandchildren's sporting events and activities, he most enjoyed time spent on vacation with family and friends, hanging out poolside at his house where everyone was welcome, and listening to the Sunday Polka Party. Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the LEO M. BACHA FUNERAL HOME INC., 516 Stanton St., Greensburg. Parastas will be at 7 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Prayers will begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home, followed by Divine Liturgy to be celebrated at 10 a.m. in St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, Greensburg, with the Rev. Regis Duscena as celebrant. Entombment will follow in Greensburg Catholic Cemetery Mausoleum. www.bachafh.com.
