Shirley Bortz Kahler, 92, of Greensburg, passed away peacefully at Villa Angela at St. Anne Home on December 13th, 2025. She was born July 3, 1933, in Greensburg, the daughter of the late Mary and Homer Bortz. Prior to her retirement, Shirley worked at the Bell Telephone Company for more than 30 years. She enjoyed knitting and bird watching. She was particularly skilled at mending holes in the clothes of her loved ones, removing stains of all origins, and untangling jewelry. She was a graduate of Greensburg High School class of 1951, member of First United Methodist Church in Greensburg, Charter Oak Retirees, Bell Telephone Pioneers and AARP. Shirley is preceded in death by siblings, Homer, Ivan, and Ronald Bortz; and nephew, Ray Bortz. She is survived by her daughter, Amy Duncan; grandchildren, Stephanie Kress (Tim) and Kristen Rugola-Duncan (Kayla); great-granddaughter, Hadley Kress, who always made her smile; and nieces and nephews, Rick Bortz (Beverly), Becky Bortz, Carol Shively, Linda Andrews (Tom), Carla Kotrc, Christopher Bortz, and Andrew Bortz. Friends will be received 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, December 20, 2025 at the LEO M. BACHA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 2072 Route 130, Pleasant Unity, when a memorial service will be held with Chaplain Greg Crofford officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Jumonville Camp & Retreat, 887 Jumonville Road, Hopwood, PA 15445 and Heartland Hospice through Gentiva Hospice Foundation, 3350 Riverwood Parkway SE, Suite 1400, Atlanta, GA 30339. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff of Heartland Hospice and St. Anne Home, who took excellent care of Shirley for nearly 2 years.
