Ronald Whigham Obituary

Ronald Curtis Whigham, of Greensburg, passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2022, at the age of 90.  He was born on October 25, 1931, in Greensburg.  He was the son of the late Curtis M. Whigham and Dorothy Brennan Whigham.  He attended East Huntingdon High School.

Ronald served in the Navy during the Korean war as a radio man and a 1st Class Petty Officer.  Following the war, he attended West Virginia University on the GI Bill graduating with Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1959.  Following college, he enjoyed a long career working for Westinghouse Electric and retiring as CEO from Powerex, Youngwood after 30 years.  Always the eternal student he continued learning with leadership degrees from Carnegie Mellon and the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia.

Following his professional career, he was inducted into the Inaugural West Virginia University Academy of Distinguished Electrical & Computer Engineering.

Ron’s had many interests outside of work to include 15 years as a volunteer at the local Score chapter.  He served as President of the United Way of Westmoreland County and was a member of various Boards of Directors.  A little-known fact, Ronald was jointly awarded a patent of a rectifier component that is used on all automobiles to this day.

He is survived by his wife, Sally Kaufman Whigham of 63 years of marriage; daughter, Karen Massa (Marc); son, John Whigham (Ann), and son, Patrick Whigham (Michelle).  He celebrated life with seven grandchildren, Jennifer Merritt (Sam), Ann Massa, Kyle Whigham, Katie Sharrett (Isaac), Lindsey Fratto (David), Bridget Massa, and Curtis Whigham; five great-grandchildren; sister, Sondra Freed; brother, Dale Whigham; brother, Dennis Whigham (Jan); and multiple nieces and nephews.

We want to give special thanks to the many caregivers from HomeInstead and others who gave the best of care and love to him.

Ronald loved life and enjoyed sports especially golf.  He truly loved sharing time with friends and loved ones in their southern home of Jupiter, FL.

When asked about life… Ron would often say “it’s good stuff.”
