Richard P. Kozusko

Richard P. “Rick” Kozusko, 72, of Latrobe, died Thursday, September 19, 2024 at home.  He was born April 9, 1952 in Latrobe, a son of the late Michael J. and Mary H. (Mizak) Kozusko.  He was a graduate of California University where he played baseball then received his Masters from the University of Pittsburgh.  Prior to retirement he was a teacher at Greater Latrobe School District and previously at the former St. Vincent Catholic School.  After retirement Rick enjoyed working for Reeds Auction Company.  A man of deep faith, Rick was a lifetime member of St. Vincent Basilica Parish where he volunteered as an altar server and usher.  He coached Greater Latrobe High School football for over 20 years, baseball for 10 years and softball with multiple WPIAL titles.  Rick was also part of the 1968 WPIAL football championship team.  “Coach Kozu” also coached Latrobe Little League, Teener League, Jr. Pro Basketball, American Legion Baseball and West Point Softball where he guided the 13-14 year old team to the World Series in 2004.  Rick stayed active in later years as a spotter at Latrobe High School football games.  He loved coaching all 3 of his children throughout their lives and continued to do so with his grandchildren.  Rick was a devoted husband, father and Poppy.  He loved his family dearly, his 8 grandchildren were the light of his life.  He enjoyed attending their numerous sporting events, plays, family get-togethers and family vacations.  He was “Mr. Fix It" at his childrens homes, eager to help with every project, enjoyed doing yard work and many home projects.  He was a dedicated follower of Pitt football, the Pirates and the Steelers.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 8 siblings, Stephen P., John J., Anne Poponick, Michael J. Jr., Elizabeth Bajuszik, Dolly Pevarnik, Joseph J. and Paul P. Kozusko.  He is survived by his wife, Anita L. (Duralia) Kozusko, 3 children, Matt Kozusko and wife Jamie, Danny Kozusko and wife Lauren and Meghan Mays and husband Ben, 8 grandchildren, Zander, Liviana, Brody, Paxton, Riley and Myles Kozusko and Nate and Maddie Mays plus numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.  Friends will be received from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM Sunday at the LEO M. BACHA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 2072 Route 130, Pleasant Unity.  A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 AM Monday in St. Vincent Basilica, Latrobe.  Interment will follow in St. Vincent Cemetery, Unity Township.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Vincent Basilica Parish, 300 Fraser Purchase Road, Latrobe, PA  15650.
