Richard DeFrank, Sr. Obituary

Richard A. DeFrank Sr., 78, of Mt. Pleasant, formerly of Greensburg, passed away Saturday, September 18, 2021, in Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg.  He was born November 24, 1942, in Bradford, a son of the late Lugie and Nita (Bonati) DeFrank.  He is survived by his wife, Tanis L. (Bumba) DeFrank, who he married on November 11, 1967.  They have four children, Bernadette Harrold (Ray), of Murrells Inlet, SC, Trina Hribal (Joe), of Mt. Pleasant, Richard DeFrank Jr. (Kary), of Greensburg, and C.J. DeFrank (Kristina), of Scottdale.  Also surviving are 12 grandchildren; his brother, Eugene DeFrank (Helen), of Bradford; two sisters-in-law, Linda Crookston and Sharon Weaver; and several nieces and nephews.  Richard’s passion was to grow a beard and play Santa every Christmas Eve, followed by a reading of the Night Before Christmas with his grandchildren.  He was an honorably discharged Navy veteran.  In 1965 he joined the City of Greensburg Police Department where he went through the ranks and retired as Lieutenant in 1992.  He had also worked as a motor informant officer for the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission and later the Department of Licenses and Inspections.  Richard was happy to retire and spend more time with Tanis and their grandchildren.  He was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Greensburg, and the Fraternal Order of Police No. 62, Greensburg. Private services will be held for the family.  Private interment in Visitation Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant.  LEO M.
