Richard L. "Dick" Ackerman

Richard L. “Dick” Ackerman, 82, of Latrobe, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2026.

Born on December 15, 1943, Richard lived a life defined by faith, hard work, generosity, and an unwavering devotion to his family. A lifelong family man, he was known for always being there for the ones he loved, never hesitating to lend a helping hand or to offer support when it was needed. To many he was their go to guy, kind-hearted, caring, and deeply loved by all who knew him.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Gloria Ackerman; his son, Richard Ackerman Jr. and wife, Bernadette; his daughter, Sondra Ackerman and her companion, David Greer; his stepdaughters, Jen Smith and husband, Philip; Alyssa Carte and husband, Brian; six grandchildren, Alexis Myers and husband, Brandon, Chase Smith and girlfriend, Jenna, Bruno Yacoboni and fiancée, Olivia, Christopher Kulisek, Stephen Carte, and Jimmy Carte; his cherished great-grandson, Brexton Myers; brother William Ackerman and wife, Julie; and sister in law Barbara Ackerman. 

Dick was a faithful member of Fairview Church of God and dedicated much of his life to serving others through his faith. He was an active member of the Christian Motorcyclists Association, serving as president for several years and participating in the organization's Run for the Son. He found great joy in riding his motorcycle and creating lifelong friendships with fellow riders. 

Alongside his son, Dick proudly owned and operated Midway Parts & Service in Pleasant Unity, where he built lasting relationships with many customers over the years who quickly became family to him. 

Dick enjoyed traveling and was always ready to hit the road, especially if it meant finding a great meal. He would drive well over 2 hours if it meant a good hot dog, some bacon or a cup of hot coffee, and it better be piping hot! He would never pass up on a trip north to Port Allegany to hunting camp with some of his closet friends or a trip south to Bristol, Tennessee for a Nascar race. These adventures, stories and memories are what his family will cherish forever.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Dorothy Ackerman; his brothers, Robert Ackerman and Raymond Ackerman; his sisters, Leora Smith, Doris Ghrist, and Ruth Ackerman.

Family and friends are invited to attend visitation at the Norvelt Union Church, 2339 Mt. Pleasant Road, Norvelt, PA on Saturday, June 13th, 2026 from 12:00-2:00 p.m. and 4:00-7:00 p.m. A memorial service will follow the evening visitation at Norvelt Union Church, officiated by Pastor David Greer, Pastor Mike Beckley and Pastor Scott Leichliter.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Run for the Son through the Christian Motorcyclists Association or to Norvelt Union Church.
