Nicole Martĥe Saxton, 93, of Pleasant Unity, died Thursday, April 27, 2023 in Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg. She was born July 24, 1929 in Fontenoy, France, a daughter of the late Ernest and Marie Henriette Ducarroz. She was an expert seamstress at the Norvelt Sewing Factory, then retired her first time from Mountain View Nursing Home. Nicole then started a new endeavor that lasted 30 years at the Country Café in Pleasant Unity. She was a key talent to the small café that warmed the hearts of hundreds. She was a perfectionist as was evident in her home, her profession and her life. Her devotion to family had no limits, her artistic talents highlighted her giving nature which allowed multiple treasures for her family to cherish. Nicole came from France to the U.S. as a war bride on April 25, 1947 on the USNS George W. Goethals with an infant daughter in her arms. She maintained a relationship with childhood friend and fellow war bride, Giselle Giles who lived in Georgia. This friendship created another lifelong bond. She was an avid traveler, visiting many states with her husband. She was a devoted member of St. Vincent Basilica Parish, Latrobe. Nicole had a special bond with Fr. Jacques Daley, OSB as they both shared a devotion to St. Terese. She belonged to a knitting group at St. Vincent’s as well. Nicole frequently volunteered her time at Pleasant Unity Fire Dept as a fire corps member. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Edward C. Saxton, sister Marguerite, brother, Jean, 2 grandsons, Todd and Mark and son-in-law, James L. Singer. She is survived by 3 children, Marie-France Singer, Chantal Trice and Edward R. Saxton and wife Suzie, 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She is also survived by 2 brothers in France, Andre and Henri Ducarroz, a brother-in-law, Jacques Gianlupi and many nieces and nephews including a special niece Francoise. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM Sunday at the LEO M. BACHA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 2072 Route 130, Pleasant Unity. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 1 PM Monday in St. Vincent Basilica Parish, Latrobe. Interment will follow in St. Vincent Cemetery, Unity Township. If desired, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Carmelite Monastery, 5206 Center Drive, Latrobe, PA 15650.
