Mary Lazor Obituary

Mary Catherine “Cass” (Schachte) Lazor, 94, of Greensburg, died Friday, April 30, 2021 at St. Anne Home, Greensburg, surrounded by her loving family.  Born February 3, 1927 in Hecla, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Anastasia (Nolan) Schachte.

She graduated from Hurst High School in 1945 where she was a member of the student council, chorus, and the newspaper staff.  She worked at the garment factory in Norvelt prior to her marriage to her devoted, loving husband of 69 years, Anthony E. “Tech” Lazor, who passed away in 2016.

Cass loved music, and she had a beautiful singing voice.  She was a church cantor as early as the seventh grade at her childhood parish of St. Florian.  She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, Greensburg, where she was a former member of the church choir and the diocesan choir, both of which she loved very much.

She devoted her life to being a loving wife, mother, and homemaker, and she was so very proud of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  She was happiest when she was at family gatherings sharing everyone’s latest news, playing games, singing, celebrating family events, or enjoying family vacations.  She was a very strong woman who got through life’s struggles with much faith, courage, strength, and a wonderful sense of humor.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Jack, James, Paul, Joseph, Leroy, Francis, Richard, and Cornelius Schachte.  She is survived by her children, David (Bobbi) Lazor, Debbie (John) Lazor Wilson, Dale (Bev) Lazor, Dennis (Laura) Lazor, and Dana (Bill) Lazor Bromyard; 10 grandchildren, Lynne (Ed), Matt (Leslie), Dan (Sarah), Katie (David), Kelsey, Tess, Julie, Lara, Sam, and Ally; five great-grandchildren, Jacob, Tyler, Jo, Martha, and Ben; two sisters-in-law, Eva Schachte and Helen Schachte; and numerous nieces and nephews.  Cass will be greatly missed by her loving family and all those who knew her.

Friends will be received from 3 to 7 PM Monday at the LEO M. BACHA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 516 Stanton Street, Greensburg.  A funeral mass will be celebrated at 9 AM Tuesday in Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, 300 N. Main St., Greensburg.  Please go directly to the church.  Interment will follow in St. Florian Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant Township.  Please be prepared to adhere to all current health guidelines, including face masks and social distancing.  The family would like to thank the staff at St. Anne Home and Heartland Hospice for the very kind and compassionate care given to our mother.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bethlehem Project for the homeless or near homeless through Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, Greensburg.  www.bachafh.com
