Mary Duda Obituary

Mary Ann (Firment) Duda, 89, of Trauger, passed away on Monday, January 25, 2021 at Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg. She fulfilled her last wish to be around for her grandson’s wedding.  Mary Ann loved life - and Dove chocolates. She was a loving wife, beloved mother and grandmother, and friend to all that knew her. In earlier years she was a teacher at Mt. Pleasant.  Mary Ann liked to cook and bake, and was known as a handy seamstress for friends and relatives. Her warm smile brought joy to many and she loved to sing and dance to the Sunday morning polka party.  Mary Ann was a devout Catholic who prayed daily the rosary and the Divine Mercy Chaplet. She had been a member of the Red Hats, St. Florian’s Rosary-Altar Society, Catholic Daughters of America, Court St. Florian #2240, Trauger Fire Department Ladies’ Auxiliary; and for many years she was a devoted pierogi-maker at the former St. Stanislaus, Calumet.  Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents, John and Anna (Koval) Firment, husband Thomas A. Duda and a brother John Robert “Bob” Firment.  She will be lovingly remembered by her son, Thomas Duda, of Jefferson City, TN, daughters Joan (Mark) Ulishney, of Greensburg and Barbe (Kenny) Moore, of Indiana, PA, and seven grandchildren,  Fr. Daniel Ulishney, David (Megan) Ulishney, Jessica (Marco) Kurek, Michael Ulishney, Matthew Ulishney, John Duda and Jacob Duda.  She is also survived by her sister, Lois Stinebiser, a brother Ronald (Sue) Firment, sister-in-law Eleanor Firment, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.  The family wishes to thank her aide Mary McGee and her long-time and caring neighbors the Kuhar and Long families for all of their friendship and assistance over the years.  A private visitation for family will be held at the Leo M. Bacha Funeral Home, Pleasant Unity. Friends are invited to a funeral Mass at 10:30 AM Thursday at St. Florian Church, United, with her grandson Fr. Daniel Ulishney presiding. Please wear a mask and follow CDC guidelines.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Mt. Pleasant Center for Active Adults (Meals on Wheels) or Trauger VFD. In honor of Mary Ann, be sure to ‘turn that frown upside down’ and put on a smile!
