Larry S. Johnston

Larry S. Johnston, 80, of Greensburg, passed away peacefully Friday, September 8, 2023 at home.  He was born March 24, 1943 in Greensburg, a son of the late James C. and Mary E. (Somers) Johnston.  He served with the US Marine Corps during the Vietnam War and prior to retirement worked at SCI, Greensburg.  Larry had a love for building custom cars and dirt track racing at Schmucker’s Speedway.  His favorite car was the 69 Chevelle, he enjoyed going to car shows and spending time in his garage, he most recently enjoyed driving his Camero and was an avid hunter.  He was a member of the 49ers Club in Greensburg, Hecla Sportmen’s club, Norvelt Firemen’s club, Kecksburg Firemen’s club and Unity Township American Legion Post #982.  He was past commander of the former Amvets Post #94 in United.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Larry Charles Johnston.  He is survived by his wife, Christina A. (Petrella) Johnston, 2 grandsons, Owen C. and Dylan T. Johnston, daughter-in-law, Beverly A. Johnston, 2 step children, Johnny Andrews, Jr. and Julia Andrews and several cousins.  Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM Tuesday at the LEO M. BACHA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 2072 Route 130, Pleasant Unity where funeral services will be held at 10 AM Wednesday with The Rev. John W. George officiating.  Military honors by the Armbrust Veterans and interment will follow in Hillview Cemetery, Hempfield Township.
