John “Saf” Saffin, 79, of Mt. Pleasant Township, went home to be with his Lord Thursday, October 6, 2022 at Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg. He was born February 3, 1943 in Brownsville, a son of the late John and Mary (Evans) Saffin. John was a graduate of Beth Center High School class of 1961 then served four years with the US Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. Prior to retirement John was the owner and operator of Saffin Tree Removal from 1969 to 2012. John enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, tying flies, gardening, cooking, wine making, spending time on his tractor cutting grass and spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of VFW Post #33 Greensburg, American Legion Post #515 Latrobe, BPOE #907 Latrobe and Hecla Sportsmen’s Club. He is survived by his wife, Gwendolyn Kay (Fallecker) Saffin, 3 daughters, Tammy J. Takitch and husband Thomas, Heidi L. Saffin and Mary M. Humberger and husband Keith, 13 grandchildren, Austin Sperber, Alainah Early, Morgan Schade, Nick Schade, Shelby Sperber, Brock Barnhart, Noah Humberger, Rebecca Humberger, Thomas Takitch, Tori Arnold, Stephanie Takitch, Todd Grenke and Jessica Hegedus, 3 great grandchildren, Thomas Takitch, Ethan Grenke and Gage Hegedus, his brother, Joseph Saffin and wife Elizabeth and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from Noon to 4 PM Sunday at the Leo M. Bacha Funeral Home, Inc., 2072 Route 130, Pleasant Unity at which time his funeral service will be held in the funeral home.
