John M. O’Connell, Jr., 85, of Greensburg, died Wednesday, January 1, 2025, in his home. He was born October 3, 1939, in Greensburg, a son of the late John M. and Catherine (Dougherty) O’Connell.
He received an engineering degree from Villanova University and was a graduate of Harvard Law School. John had been an attorney and partner of O’Connell and Silvis, LLC, Attorneys at Law. John was a member of Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, Greensburg. He was also a member and past president of the Westmoreland Bar Association, a former member of the House of Delegate of the Pennsylvania Bar Association and was a former board member of the Spruce Creek Rod and Gun Club. He was a loving husband, fantastic father and role model, and most importantly, the world’s greatest fisherman.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Michael P. O’Connell; and his sister, Mary Margaret Truschel. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Judith C. (Parks) O’Connell; his son, John R. O’Connell (Stacie); his daughter, Julie A. Prusock (George, Jr.); six grandchildren, Hannah, Owen, George III, Theodore, Vincent, and Jackson; brother-in-law, Kenneth Parks (Krissie); and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 9:30 AM Saturday, January 11, 2025, at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, 300 N. Main St., Greensburg, PA 15601. Please go directly to the church.
