John Holzapfel Obituary

John W. “Jack” Holzapfel, 76, of Southwest Greensburg, died Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at Independence Health System Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg. He was born November 10, 1946, in Greensburg, a son of the late Francis W. and Elizabeth P. (Leon) Holzapfel.  Prior to retirement he had been employed by Blue Line Corporation and formerly employed by, Georgia Pacific, Matlack, and St. Johnsbury Trucking. John served in the US Amry during the Vietnam War and was a lifelong member of the VFW Post No. 33 and the Roosevelt Club. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Amy Jo Holzapfel; and three grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Dorene M. (Phillips) Holzapfel; six children, Jeffrey N. Besselman, William R. Besselman, Tina D. Balsewiz, Michael J. Besselman, Betty J. Stevens, and Kristy L. Holzapfel; 13 grandchildren, three great grandsons; sister, Joann H. Grace (Ronald); and several nieces and nephews.  Friends will be received from 3 to 7 PM Friday at the LEO M. BACHA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 516 Stanton Street, Greensburg. A funeral liturgy will begin Saturday at 9:30 AM in the funeral home. Interment and full military services by the VFW Post No. 33, Greensburg Honor Guard will follow in Saint Clair Cemetery.
