Janet Maureen Horner (Palmer), 79, of Unity Township, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, December 5, 2025, surrounded by her family after a courageous nearly two-year battle with ALS. Born May 28, 1946 in Latrobe, she was the daughter of Maurice “Pete” and Jane (Neiderhiser) Palmer. She was a 1964 graduate of Ligonier High School and later attended trade school, where she earned her cosmetology license. Janet was a hard worker through and through—she always said, “no work, no eat.” Whether she was splitting firewood for her wood burner, tending to the cows in her field, or canning goods like no one else, she lived by her own example of grit, humor, and perseverance. Though she jokingly called herself the “old geiserette,” she was anything but. Nearly eighty in years but twenty-five at heart, Janet lived with an energy and excitement that inspired everyone around her. She had the ultimate bucket list, and she loved checking things off. Some of her favorites included riding multiple mechanical bulls—and always staying on the longest among her friends—getting within five feet of Luke Bryan and screaming so loud that she loved him and finally getting her first tattoo. She loved carrying on, playing cards, collecting antiques, showing her 68’ Dodge Charger (alongside her family’s classic cars) at car shows, going to wineries, attending sock hops, and especially going to see her favorite band “Saddle Up” play so she could dance and “boogie”. Janet was truly the life of every party and made friends everywhere she went, even in the grocery store aisles. She was fun, loving, kind, strong, selfless, always helping others, and so much more. She will be missed by so many. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Larry C. Horner, all of her siblings—brothers Robert “Bob”, David “Dave” and Daniel “Danny” Palmer, sisters Joan Schober and Jean Knopsnider, whom she missed so dearly and her dear friend, Linda Kennel. She is survived by her son, Michael “Shawn” Horner at home, her daughter, Wendy Horner, also at home, and her granddaughter, Ashley Goblinger, who was her whole entire world, along with Ashley’s soon-to-be husband, Billy Stewart, whom “Gram” loved so very dearly. Though she had one true grandchild, many throughout the years lovingly called her “Namal” and she cherished each as her own. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, her dear cousin-turned-best-friend, Carolyn “Susie” Rodgers, countless friends, all of her beloved “Namal’s Knights”, her barn cats and the five family dogs—especially Carter, the golden retriever she gifted to Ashley, with whom she loved “playing bubbles” with on the porch more than anything. The family extends their deepest gratitude to her hospice caregivers, Bridget and Lori, for their exceptional care and support given to both her and them. Friends and family will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM Friday, December 12, 2025 at the LEO M. BACHA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 2072 Route 130, Pleasant Unity. A graveside service and inurnment will be held at St. Paul Reformed Cemetery Saturday, December 13, 2025 at 11 AM, followed by a luncheon at the family home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you go out and do something from YOUR bucket list in honor and memory of Janet. Her bucket list will continue on forever through all of us.
