James Roman, 87, of South Greensburg, died Sunday, March 21, 2021 in his home. He was born January 24, 1934 in Mt. Pleasant, a son of the late James and Carmella (Costabile) Roman. Prior to retirement he had been a plant superintendent for the Greater Greensburg Sewage Authority. He was a member of St. Bruno Roman Catholic Church, South Greensburg and was an Army veteran. Jim was the mayor of South Greensburg for 20 years and was a South Greensburg councilman for 18 years. He was a member of the South Greensburg Lions Club and the Roosevelt Club of Hempfield Township. Jim was a member of the South Greensburg Auxiliary Police for 61 years, the Greater Greensburg Sewage Authority board for 20 years, and was a life social member of the Greensburg Volunteer Fire Department Hose Co. No. 8. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Janet Landy and Geraldine Misiak. He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Denise (LaVanche) Roman; their children, Randy Roman and wife Laura, Teri Baker and husband Gary, and Tanya Roman Malik and husband Bob, all of Greensburg; six grandchildren, Yenise “Neesi” Zimmerman, James Zimmerman and fiancé Carrie, Kim Roman Kubas and husband Dr. Marc, Randy “Buck” Roman Jr. and wife Ali, Brittani Malik and Marissa Malik; six great-grandchildren, Christopher and Nicholas Hurst, Jaydin Rager, Audra Zimmerman, Jaymie Roman, and Scarlet Kubas; and one great-great-granddaughter, Diem Hurst. Friends will be received from 4 to 8 PM Wednesday and Thursday at the LEO M. BACHA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 516 Stanton Street, Greensburg. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 AM Friday in St. Bruno Roman Catholic Church, 1715 Poplar St., Greensburg. Please go directly to the church. Entombment will follow in Greensburg Catholic Cemetery Mausoleum with Military Honors accorded by the VFW Post No. 33, Greensburg honor guard.
