James W. Kuhns, Sr.

James W. Kuhns Sr., 79, of Derry Township, died Friday, Jan. 27, 2023, at Excela Health Latrobe Hospital. He was born March 15, 1943, in Mt. Pleasant, a son of the late Harry W. and Sara L. (Monticue) Kuhns. Prior to retirement, he worked for Kuhns Brothers Construction and previously at Hempfield Foundry. Jim enjoyed collecting and repairing clocks and pocket watches. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Janice E. (Gracie) Kuhns; a sister, Thelma L. Smith; and a brother, Joseph Richard "Dick" Kuhns. He is survived by four sons, James Jr., of Derry, Jeffrey, of Bradenville, Jody and wife, Heather, and Jason Kuhns and wife, Jillian, all of Derry Township; eight grandchildren; three brothers, Burl V. and wife, Debbie, of Ligonier, Jonathion E. and wife, Brenda, of Whitney, and Harry Dean Kuhns and partner, Dale, of Delaware; two sisters, Patricia A. Chuhran and husband, Nick, of Greensburg, and Zona G. Gracie, of Latrobe; and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the LEO M. BACHA FUNERAL HOME INC., 2072 Route 130, Pleasant Unity, where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. James L. Monticue officiating. Private interment will be in Greenlick Cemetery, Bullskin Township.  The family suggests memorial contributions be made to your favorite charity.
