James Michael “Jim” Dreskler, of Hempfield Township, died at home surrounded by family on Monday, August 21, 2023, at the age of 65. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph S. Sr. Madeline J. (Germano) Dreskler. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Georgiann M. “Gigi” Dreskler; two sons, John Dreskler (Jenny) and Zack Dreskler (Michelle); three grandchildren, Elliot, Maverick, and Josephine; six siblings, Kathy Ball (John), Guy J. Dreskler (Barbara), Joseph S. Dreskler, Jr. (Nadine), Carl Douglas Dreskler (Velma), Mary E. Caruso (Michael), and Matthew W. Dreskler (Sharon); 14 nieces and nephews; and many very special friends. Jim was born on February 21, 1958, in Greensburg. He grew up in a large, loving family. Jim and Gigi met in high school and married shortly after. The couple lived and raised their two children in Hempfield Township. Jim was a driven achiever with a love of hard work and unique challenges. He and Gigi opened ATA Martial Arts Greensburg on January 5, 2004, where they dedicated their lives to building a better community through the study and practice of Taekwondo as a way to bring confidence, perseverance, and indomitable spirit to their students and families. Jim was honored by the American Taekwondo Association in 2019 when he earned the title of Master. He achieved the rank of 6th degree Black Belt and was granted the rank of 7th degree before his death. When diagnosed with esophageal cancer in 2021, he remained dedicated to his work and his will to fight his illness. He remained a brave, iron-willed Warrior, even through his final months. Friends will be received from 3 to 7 PM Thursday at the LEO M. BACHA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 516 Stanton Street, Greensburg. Prayers will begin at 9 AM Friday in the funeral home, followed by a funeral mass to be celebrated at 9:30 AM in Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, Greensburg. For those inspired by Jim, the family welcomes everyone to gather at Jim’s home for a celebration of his life at noon Friday. The family would especially like to thank the doctors, nurses, and care givers of Independence Health Westmoreland Hospital, and Excela Health Home Care and Hospice, who helped Jim though his toughest times. Their excellent work, loving care, and attentive testament brought comfort to his family.
