Howard H. (Jr.) Hayden

Howard H. Hayden Jr., 85, of Youngwood, passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2024. He was born on October 29, 1938, in Greensburg, a son of the late Mary (Czerpak) Hayden and Howard H. Hayden Sr. Howard was Catholic by faith and was a member of St. Bruno Roman Catholic Church in South Greensburg. He retired after serving 28 years in the United States Air Force, followed by an additional 9 years working with the United States Civil Service. While serving his country, Howard was honored with a Commendation Medal, the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, the Air Force Good Conduct Award, the National Defense Service Medal, the Air Force Longevity of Service Award and the Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon. Howard was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a lover of gift giving, an avid fisherman, an accomplished bowler (with a 300 to his name) and enjoyed traveling in the many RV’s he purchased during his life. Being in the military, he had friends across the United States and traveled frequently to Alaska, Colorado, Florida, Nebraska, New Mexico and Washington. His biggest thrill was his many visits to Alaska, by way of RV along the Alaska-Canada Highway, to fish on the Kenai and Russian Rivers. Howard will be sadly missed by his beloved wife of 64 years, Donna (Leone) Hayden; daughter Deborah Dobies; son Warren Hayden and his wife Christine; sister Lois (Hayden) Engleka; brother Thomas Hayden and his wife Barbara; and brother-in-law Richard Craig.  Howard was the proud grandfather of Anthony Dobies (Tony), Kelly (Dobies) Andersen and her husband Jason, Samuel Hayden and his wife Sarah, and Charles Hayden (Charlie); and a great-grandchild Theodore Andersen. Howard was preceded in death by his parents, sister Barbara (Hayden) Craig; and son-in-law Michael Dobies.  Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM Sunday at the LEO M. BACHA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 516 Stanton Street, Greensburg.  Prayers will begin at 9:30 AM Monday in the funeral home, followed by a funeral mass to be celebrated at 10 AM in St. Bruno Roman Catholic Church in South Greensburg with Rev. Lawrence Manchas officiating. Interment will follow in St. Clair Cemetery, Greensburg with full military honors accorded by the South Greensburg American Legion Post No. 981 Honor Guard. www.bachafh.com
