Gerald Lester “Chick” Walter, 80, of Blairsville, died Monday, March 24, 2025 in Monroeville. He was born on March 25, 1944, in Jeannette, to parents Lester Gerald Walter and Ruthetta Margaret (Schaeffer) Walter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Phyliss Louise Grimenstein, their son, Michael Jo Grimenstein, a grandson, Caid A. Leonard and 4 nephews, Dwight E. and Marcus E. Deithorn, Marten J. Betters and Brian P. Coleman. Gerry is survived by two daughters, Jennifer Wiedeburg (Eric), of Latrobe, and Megan Leonard, of Seattle, WA, his sister, Constance “Connie” Deithorn, of Monroeville, 10 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 4 nieces and nephews, 10 great nieces and nephews, lifelong friends, Bill Ager and Scott Steiner and good buddies David Seevers and John Hancock. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to family friend and caretaker, Karen Ammon, for her kindness and compassion in caring for Gerry. Prior to retirement, Gerry owned G.L. Walter Flooring, and was a fishing and hunting guide, and shooting instructor. He was a member of Derry Rod and Gun and Blairsville VFW. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in Montana, Canada, and the arctic, watching drag racing, spending time on his boat in Lake Erie, researching military aircraft and history, raising his dogs, and spending time with his family. Above all, he loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. His passing comes nearly 35 years to the day of the loss of his wife Phyliss. We are comforted to know he is reunited with her again, alongside Mike and his dogs Bruno, Coco, and Force. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM Friday at the LEO M. BACHA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 2072 Route 130, Pleasant Unity, where funeral services will be held at 10 AM Saturday. Interment will follow in Greensburg Union Cemetery, Hempfield Township.
