Frank H. Decker, 62, of Greensburg, passed away Saturday, November 11, 2023, at UPMC Shadyside Hospital. He was born February 15, 1961, in Solingen, Germany, a son of Erika A. (Brundle) Decker and the late Karlheinz Decker. Frank was a one-in-a-million man with a heart as sweet and gentle as his radiant smile. Frank, a charismatic soul, was easy to like, humble, and possessed an inner strength that guided him through life’s challenges. His love for family and friends was fierce, and he embraced his role as a caretaker for his younger brother and sister with unwavering dedication.
Frank’s journey began when he came to America at the age of six with his parents, who instilled in him the value of education and hard work. Following German tradition, he wore a three-piece suit to his first day of school and after just three days of school he learned so much that he was teaching his parents English. Throughout his life, he continued to speak German with his mother, a testament to the deep connection with his roots.
Following in his father’s footsteps, Frank dedicated his career to Piad Precision Casting, where he worked tirelessly, climbing the ladder, and embodying the quiet strength that defined him. Even after facing the loss of his father at a young age, Frank persevered, taking on the responsibility of caring for his siblings.
In a beautiful twist of fate, Frank met the love of his life; his wife, Linda, with their union lasting 26 joy-filled years. His home studio became a sanctuary where he crafted beautiful music and wrote inspiring songs, finding solace and meditation in the process. Frank’s spirituality shone through in his music, which he used to worship the Lord, especially during his time playing with the church’s worship band, adding his own unique flair to each performance.
A lover of animals and nature, Frank found comfort and companionship in furry friends, especially during his battle with pancreatic cancer. Remarkably, he lived over 8 ½ years with the illness, facing it with a smile, grace, and an inspiring lack of complaint. Frank’s selflessness was evident in his concern for others’ feelings, always placing their well-being above his own.
As we bid farewell to this extraordinary soul, let us remember Frank’s enduring spirit, his love for life, family, music, and his unwavering grace in the face of adversity. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him, leaving an indelible mark on the world that will be cherished for generations to come.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his loving wife, Linda B. (Burriss) Decker; one brother, Thomas Decker; one sister, Sandra Quigley (Stephen); nephew and nieces, Cooper Quigley, Harper Quigley and Madison Decker; mother-in-law, Sara “Sally” Burriss; and sister-in-law, Sheila Chalot.
