Evelyn R. Wells

Evelyn R. Wells, 90, of Greensburg, passed away Friday, May 24, 2024, after a brief illness.  She was born September 30, 1933, in Ligonier, daughter of the late George and Helen (Ridilla) Smyder.  After graduating from Ligonier High School, Evelyn obtained a degree from Indiana State Teachers College.  Prior to retirement, Evelyn taught Social Studies at Hempfield Senior High School for over 30 years.  She was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church, Marguerite.  Her hobbies included gardening, traveling, and reading.  Upon retirement, Evelyn volunteered with the Red Cross, Blackburn Center, and the Palace Theater.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Tom Smyder, Gerald Smyder, and George Smyder, Jr.  She is survived by two daughters, Kristi Crum and Husband Steve, and Kelly Cole and husband Brad; grandchildren, Travis Crum, Lindsay Crum, Tanner Crum, Madison Cole, and Rylan Cole; a great-grandchild; and her brother, Charles Smyder, of Alachua, Fla.  All services are private.  Private interment in High Springs Cemetery, High Springs, FL.  LEO M.
