Edwin James Truxal, 98, of Greensburg, died peacefully Saturday, May 31, 2025, at Redstone Highlands, Greensburg. He was born December 29, 1926, the only child of the late Lester R. Truxal and Dorothy (Snively) Truxal Anderson.
After graduating from Greensburg High School in 1944, Ed was recruited by the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Pennsylvania on football scholarships, but he enlisted in the U.S. Navy to serve during World War II. In 1956, he and his wife founded Truxal Ceramic Tile Company which operated for over 55 years. His son joined the business, and they later formed a partnership in 1976, in which David took a crucial role in running the operations.
Ed was a member of Zion's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Greensburg, where he currently was the oldest baptized member. He was a past president of the West Penn Football Officials, past president of the Greensburg Baseball Association, a member of the American Legion Post 981, South Greensburg for over 50 years, and a member of Freemason Westmoreland Lodge 518 and the Scottish Rite of Pittsburgh. However, Ed was most proud to have served as the first President of Hannastown Golf Club. After playing at the Greensburg Golf Invitational in 1974, Ed became aware of the pending sale of Hannastown and organized a meeting at Lynch Field’s Nevin Center with nearly 250 members. He energized the group to band together to purchase the club, and after the membership took control of the club, Ed served as president from 1974 – 1984. He genuinely enjoyed his time at Hannastown and loved the course.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, David L. Truxal; his second wife, Constance (Deal) Hamilton Truxal; his son in law, Angelo J. Delaini; and his step father, Edwin “Pete” Anderson. He is survived by three daughters, Darlene D. (Truxal) Delaini, Dona L. (Truxal) DeFelice and her husband, Pierre, and Darcy A. (Truxal) Kincaid and her husband, H.B.; six grandchildren, David A. Delaini, Laurel Wolf and her husband, Kyle, Derek J. DeFelice, Blaine Kincaid and his wife, Katie, Dana Olecki and her husband, Michael, and Brianne M. Kincaid; five great-grandchildren, Grayson and Declan Wolf, Brooks and Charlotte Kincaid, and Dominic Olecki; and numerous cousins.
Friends will be received from 4 to 7 PM Tuesday at the LEO M. BACHA FUNERAL HOME INC., 516 Stanton Street, Greensburg. A funeral service will begin at 11 AM Wednesday in the funeral home with the Rev. Brian Chaffee officiating. Interment will follow in St. Clair Cemetery, Greensburg. In lieu of flowers, Ed specifically requested that memorial contributions may be made to Zion's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 140 S. Pennsylvania Ave., Greensburg, PA 15601. The family would like to thank all of the compassionate caregivers of Redstone, too numerous to list, who enabled Ed to die peacefully and with dignity. www.bachafh.com
