Edward A. Scott

Surrounded by the love of his family holding his hands, Edward A. “Eddie” Scott, 89, of Greensburg, PA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 7, 2026, at Forbes Hospital in Monroeville, PA.

Born April 1, 1937, in Butler, PA, he was the only child of Arthur Leonard Scott and Vera Marie Plaisted Scott. He graduated from Butler Senior High School in 1955 where he played the clarinet in the High School Marching Band and then graduated from the University of Chicago in 1960. Eddie majored in Mechanical Engineering. He worked at ARMCO (American Rolling Mill Company) steel manufacturing plant in Butler, PA, and afterward began his mechanical engineering career at Oberg Industries in Freeport, PA. After Oberg Industries, Eddie joined Youngwood Electronic Metals, Inc. in Murrysville, PA. There he became Chief Design Engineer, drafting designs to manufacture high-speed carbide stamping dies. Those dies produced parts at Youngwood Electronic Metals for customers such as NASA, General Electric, and Motorola. During the 1970s, for customer Senco Products, Inc., Eddie was instrumental in designing the die to manufacture the tool to remove medical skin staples. Eddie also worked many years as a Certified Financial Planner and Agent for Prudential Insurance Company.

As a young boy, Eddie was very involved in scouting. His uncle Eddie Plaisted, although blind, assisted him with getting to his regular Boy Scout meetings. Eddie fondly remembered President Harry S. Truman speaking at one of his Boy Scout Jamborees.

When Eddie and his wife and daughters moved to Herman, PA in the early 1960s, he joined the Herman Volunteer Fire Company. That began his life-long passion for saving lives and property. He became a life-time member of both Herman Volunteer Fire Company and continued to sell monthly raffle tickets for Herman VFC until just before he passed. He also became a life-time member of West Point Volunteer Fire Company in Greensburg, PA, after joining that department in 1967. After 38 years of service with West Point VFC and being in charge of countless Bingo events, raising thousands of dollars for gear and apparatus, Eddie retired as a Captain. Eddie was also a volunteer Paramedic, EMS Instructor and American Red Cross Instructor. He ran countless shifts as a volunteer Paramedic with Mutual Aid Ambulance Service in Greensburg, saving hundreds of lives over a period of more than two decades. At that time Mutual Aid Ambulance Service was the only EMS service specifically requested to standby on location at the home field Steelers’ football games in Pittsburgh. Eddie said, “When the doctor walked out onto the field to care for an injured player, I walked right beside him.” Eddie also testified at court trials as an expert witness in his capacity as a Paramedic.

Eddie was very proud of keeping his lawn and property well-groomed and loved watching and hearing the birds, especially Cardinals, as they regularly visited the feeder he built and erected in the back yard. Deer and squirrels also frequented the yard and would make periodic attempts to grab a quick snack of the bird seed.

Eddie was an avid Steelers football and NASCAR fan. He owned, restored, rebuilt, and “souped up” three classic cars during his lifetime: a 1966 Mustang fastback, a 1979 Chevy Malibu, and a 1956 Chevy Bel Air. His 1979 Malibu ran a 9-second quarter mile, pushing 870 horsepower. Eddie won many trophies with these classics, including one for doing a burnout in his Malibu that lasted way longer than two minutes. His Bel Air, the “Black Chevy” as he called it, is the same year, make, model, and color as the one he owned and purchased brand new when he met and then married the love of his life, J. Elaine Scott. Eddie enjoyed all things about muscle cars, classic cars, and car racing. With his wife by his side and often also his daughters, car cruises is what he enjoyed the most. All three of his classics won trophies at countless car shows and cruises over the years where he also met and enjoyed the company of many friends. In July of 2006 he had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to drive Tony Stewart’s actual NASCAR racecar on the Lowe’s (now Charlotte) Motor Speedway track in Concord, NC. Eddie was a member of the Butler, PA “Hubcaps,” where “Rock-n-Roll is Alive-n-Well!” He rendezvoused in Butler with his “Hubcaps” buddies every few years.

Eddie is survived by his wife of 69 years, J. Elaine Scott, whom he married on February 9, 1957; three daughters, Debra Marie Scott, of Shippensburg, PA, Diane Kay (Ralph) Kunkle, of Torrance, PA, and D’Lane Joan (John) Fries, of Fort Mill, SC. Eddie also has three surviving grandchildren, Jesse Allen Kunkle, Amanda Paige Constantine, and Grant Alexander Fries, along with four great-grandchildren. Eddie also is survived by his dearest brother-in-law, Raymond (Patricia) Pagenhardt, along with his sister-in-law, Carole Johnson, and his brother-in-law, Butch (Terry) Pagenhardt.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 PM Thursday and 12 to 2 PM Friday at the LEO M. BACHA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 516 Stanton Street, Greensburg where a funeral service will immediately follow at 2 PM with the Rev.
