Edward J. Katchmar

Edward J. Katchmar, 84, of Greensburg, peacefully passed away Sunday, April 30, 2023, at his home. He was born Sept. 30, 1938, in Windber. He was the youngest child of seven of the late John and Mary (Kocurek) Katchmar. He was preceded in death by his six siblings, William (Antoinette), Joseph, George, John, Mary Mellos (Gregory) and Elizabeth Parker (Ray); a sister-in-law, Mary Phillips; and a brother-in-law, Robert Gorse. After graduation from Pittsburgh Central Catholic High School, Ed was an employee of Westinghouse Cheswick as a metallographer for 20 years. Following Westinghouse, Ed was an employee for Fagen's Lumber for 25 years. He was a member of St. Bruno Roman Catholic Church, South Greensburg. Being a native of Pittsburgh, Ed was a passionate Pittsburgh sports fan, especially for the Pirates, Steelers and Pitt Panthers. He enjoyed singing, crosswords, fishing and woodworking but most of all, his greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family. Everyone who knew him loved him and he will be greatly missed. Edward is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Dolores A. (Barr) Katchmar and their three children, John Katchmar (Renee), Christine Garland (Brian) and Teresa Katchmar (Steve); six grandchildren, John (Ashton), Jesse, Katelyn, Brianna, Chrissy (Tim), Bonita (Keith); and eight great-grandchildren. Also survived by his loving in-laws, the Barr family, whom he considered his own brothers and sisters, Ken and Ruthann, Jim and Linda, William and Rhonda, Bob and Mary and Pat; along with many nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the LEO M. BACHA FUNERAL HOME INC., 516 Stanton St., Greensburg. Prayers will begin at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home, followed by a funeral mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m. in St. Bruno Catholic Church, South Greensburg.
