Donald Wayne Moyer, 94 (damn near 100 as he would say), passed away peacefully in his favorite chair on Tuesday, August 20, 2024. He is survived by his granddaughter, Amanda Moyer (Paul) Kanouff, and their children, Ella and Isaac Kanouff; his former daughter-in-law, Elizabeth (Gary) Schadle, and their children Laura (Mitch) Sasala, Ryan (Christina) Schadle, and great grandchildren, Ava & Luke Sasala, and Emmie, Taylor and Leah Schadle; his sister-in-law, Betsy (Joe) Brecht; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Zeta Moyer; his siblings, Kathryn Hoyman and Harry Moyer, Jr.; the love of his life of 70 years, Marian J. Moyer; and his son, Jeffery W Moyer.
He was honorably discharged from the Army after serving in combat during the Korean War. His wedding to Marian had to be delayed when he contracted Malaria, and he was not allowed to return to states when planned. Affectionately known by his co-workers as “Duck”, he worked for 35 years at the Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County. He loved to travel with his wife, as well as relaxing at their getaway on Lake Stoney Creek. If not working or traveling, he could be found on the golf course with his many golf buddies, rain or shine, because it never rains on the golf course. He had other hobbies that he loved throughout the years including bowling at Hillview bowling league, but the thing he was most proud of was his yard, with never a blade of grass out of place or a leaf on the ground. He served the Lord and his church, First Baptist of Greensburg on the maintenance and grounds committees.
To everybody who knew him, he provided an example of generosity. There was nothing of his time, means, or caring that he would not immediately offer to anyone he felt was in need. His legacy of selflessness lives on in all of us whose lives he touched.
His family would like to express appreciation for the help and support of his neighbors, who were an extra set of eyes and ears for them over the past few years. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM Friday at the LEO M. BACHA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 516 Stanton Street, Greensburg. Additional visitation will be Saturday from 10 to 11 AM at First Baptist Church, 1228 Brinkerton Road, Greensburg, PA 15601, where a funeral service will immediately follow at 11 AM. Interment will follow in St. Clair Cemetery, Greensburg. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to First Baptist Church of Greensburg. www.bachafh.com
