David Ashbaugh Obituary

David N. Ashbaugh passed away February 7, 2021 in Select Specialty Hospital, Latrobe due to extended complications of pneumonia.  He was born in Greensburg on May 13, 1947 and lived most of his life in the area.  He was a 1965 graduate of Hempfield Area High School.  Dave was an excellent basketball player and his team won Hempfield’s first ever section title championship.  Dave worked mostly in office supply sales and was co-owner of County Office Supply in Greensburg.  He was a good salesman as everyone would agree…he had the “gift of gab”.  Dave served many years on Southwest Borough Council, was a life member of Southwest Greensburg Volunteer Fire Department where he held many offices and helped to create Southwest Greensburg Recreation to which he coached baseball for many years.  Dave was a member of the former Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Southwest Greensburg.  He was an avid golfer and shot many rounds at Mt. Odin and various local courses.  Dave was a fan of Pittsburgh sports but especially the Steelers and loved going to the games and tailgating before and after the game.  He really enjoyed hanging with his buddies at Workmans Bar and the 49ers Club over the years.  He loved to sing and play the guitar and entertain with his “true stories?”  Dave was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Ellen “Nell” Ashbaugh; and his in-laws, Harry and Eleanor Keibler.  He is survived by his wife, Jill (Keibler), whom he married February 7, 1970; sons, Jordy (Mary Austeri), and Nathan (Michelle Kalp), all of Greensburg; grandson, Garrett and partner Maddie Merichko; granddaughter, Alayna; great-granddaughter, Mila Mariana; sisters-in-law, Robin (Hunter) Smith, of West Virginia, and Lori (Jon) Ponitz, of Greensburg; brother-in-law, Rex (Vicki) Keibler, of Georgia; and special nephews, Zachary and Ian (Bailey) Ponitz.  Services will be private at the LEO M. BACHA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 516 Stanton Street, Greensburg with the Rev. Brian B. Chaffee of Zion’s Lutheran Church officiating.  A celebration of life will take place when we are done with the pandemic and all friends and family can gather and drink a toast to Dave.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Tri City Meals on Wheels, P.O. Box 975, Greensburg, PA 15601, or Zion’s Lutheran Church, 140 S. Pennsylvania Ave., Greensburg, PA 15601.  A very special “thanks” to the doctors and staff at Select Specialty Hospital for their compassion and care.  You are truly “angels of mercy and grace”!  Love you Dr. Gonzales.  www.bachafh.com
