Dale E. Hassinger,88, formerly of Southwest Greensburg, died Sunday, December 3, 2023, in Mountain View Senior Living, Greensburg. He was born May 12, 1935, in Greensburg, a son of the late Conrad E. and Mary Mae (Hoover) Hassinger. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, the Norvelt Golf Club, and a lifetime member of Southwest Greensburg VFD. Dale was a 1953 graduate of Greensburg Salem, who returned as a teacher and coach for over 35 years after graduating from Slippery Rock University in 1957. He served his beloved community of Southwest Greensburg for almost 70 years as a volunteer firefighter, and then fire chief at Station 24, as well as later holding the office of mayor for close to a decade. Dale also followed in his father’s footsteps as a member and volunteer at Mutual Aid Ambulance Service, eventually serving on the Board of Directors for over 40 years. In his retirement he became an avid golfer and successfully shot two holes in one. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Joan McPhaul. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Kay (Whipkey) Hassinger; son, Bob E. Hassinger (Terri); daughter, Debra Madia (Jeffrey); five grandchildren, Marisa McEvoy (Matt), Kayla McIntire (Heath), Chance Hassinger, Bret Hassinger, and Hayley Hassinger; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM Friday at the LEO M. BACHA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 516 Stanton Street, Greensburg. A funeral service will be celebrated Saturday at 11:00 AM in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Westmoreland County Memorial Park. The Southwest Greensburg Volunteer Fire Department will conduct a service at 7 PM Friday in the funeral home.
