Charles L. Gongaware, Jr., 81, of Greensburg, died Tuesday, March 26, 2024, in Forbes Regional Hospital, Monroeville. He was born June 5, 1942, in Greensburg, a son of the late Charles L. Sr. and Grace (Stuck) Gongaware. Charles was a 1960 graduate of Greensburg High School and a 1965 graduate of Waynesburg College. Prior to retirement he had worked as a foreman for the Greensburg Division of the Municipal Authority of Westmoreland for 37 years. He was a member of Zion’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Greensburg for many years. He was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and in the mid-1970s, he was one of the first paramedics at Mutual Aid Ambulance Service. He was also a member of the Hempfield Township Roosevelt Club and the Latrobe Elks Lodge, No. 907. Chuck enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, gardening, and golf. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by loving wife of 45 years, Carolyn “Sue” Gongaware. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Kristine (Skrabski) and Tony Snyder of Huntington Beach, Ca.; and his grandson, Dylan Cole Snyder. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Zion's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Greensburg or Action for Animals Humane Society in Latrobe. There will be no viewing or funeral at this time. A memorial service will be held at a later date. LEO M.
