Charles Coleman Obituary

Charles E. “Chip” Coleman, 66, of Whitney (formerly of Horseheads, NY), died Monday, June 13, 2022 at Excela Health Latrobe Hospital.  He was born August 17, 1955 in Elmira, NY, a son of the late Elbert R. Sr. and Vina E. (Cornell) Coleman.  He was a graduate of Horseheads High School class of 1973, received his associates degree from Corning Community College and served with the US Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.  Prior to retirement he worked as a computer technician at BOCES in Elmira, NY.  Charles was a member of the Marine Corps League, E.J. Brewer detachment and attended Maranatha Bible Chapel.  He enjoyed genealogy and his family history and also wrote a book.  He is survived by his wife, Judith A.  (Ghrist) Coleman, three children, Brittney D. Coleman of Hoboken, NJ, Bryan D. Coleman of Horseheads, NY and Jeremiah C. Coleman of Hoboken, NJ, two sisters, Julia Ackerman and husband Bill of Latrobe and Candice “Candy” Hendricks and husband Stan of Lexington, SC, his brother, Elbert R. “Rusty” Coleman, Jr. and wife Mimi of Melbourne, FL, sister-in-laws, Jane Carney of Arkansas , Joyce Stewart of Latrobe and several nieces and nephews.  Friends will be received from 1 to 3 PM Monday at the Lynch Funeral Home, Inc., 318 W. Broad Street, Horseheads, NY where funeral services will be held at 3 PM with The Rev. John I. Owen officiating.  Miliary services and interment will be private for the family in Gearhart Cemetery, Horseheads, NY.  In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to The E.J. Brewer Marine Corps Detachment, PO Box 236, Horseheads, NY  14845.  Leo M. Bacha Funeral Home, Inc., Pleasant Unity, is assisting with local arrangements.
