Carmello Joseph “Joe” Lonigro, age 91, of Greensburg, passed away on Wednesday, April 23, 2025. He was born on April 26, 1933, in Gray, Pennsylvania (Somerset County), he was the youngest son of the late Frank (Francesco) and Nancy (Nunzia Santi) Lonigro.
Joe was a 1952 graduate of Jeannette High School, and earned his business degree from Duquesne University, in 1956. Shortly after, he proudly served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Schweinfurt, Germany from 1956 to 1958, finishing stateside, in the Army reserves.
He was the founder, and owner, of the Ranger Trailer Company in Greensburg, a manufacturing business he operated from 1969 until his retirement in 2004.
Joe was a devoted member of Blessed Sacrament Cathedral in Greensburg. Deeply proud of his Italian heritage, Joe had a gift for storytelling and often shared vivid memories of his family and traditions. His lifelong passions included antique cars (since his 20’s), classic films—especially Westerns—and he was a history buff. He led a disciplined life, and had a can-do spirit, that led him into many different ventures within his business of 35 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sandra (Salvador) Lonigro, in 2004; and his brothers, Paul Lonigro (wife Norma of Greensburg) and Ben Lonigro, of Greensburg.
Joe is survived by his three children (and sons and daughter-in-laws), Cynthia Hadley (Joseph), of Maryland, Nancy Phelps (Jeffrey), of Tennessee, and Joseph C. Lonigro (Heather), of Pittsburgh; along with several nieces and nephews who cherished him.
Friends will be received from 3 to 7 PM Sunday at the LEO M. BACHA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 516 Stanton Street, Greensburg. A funeral liturgy will begin at 10 AM Monday in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Greensburg Catholic Cemetery. www.bachafh.com
