Bernard Zajdel Obituary

Bernard J. Zajdel, 88, of South Greensburg, died Monday, April 29, 2024, in Independence Health System Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg.  He was born September 4, 1935 in Greensburg, a son of the late Joseph A. Sr. and Kazmiera V. “Catherine” (Bilvin) Zajdel.  He served with the US Army and prior to retirement he had been a supervisor with the Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County.  Bernie was a member of St. Bruno Catholic Church, Roosevelt Club, S. Greenburg American Legion Post 981, AMS Club, Knights of Columbus #1480 and SNPJ #223.  He enjoyed golfing at Valley Green and Norvelt Golf Clubs.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Zajdel, Jr., and two sisters, Josephine Wasserman and Louise Simon.  He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Peggy A. (Hall) Zajdel; three sons, Marcus A. Zajdel (Antoinetta) of Elyria, OH, Lawrence Zajdel of Greensburg and David E. Zajdel (Jennifer Sopko) of S. Greensburg; his daughter, Belinda Cox of Jacksonville, FL; five grandchildren, Autumn Orosz (Greg), Lawrence R. Zajdel (Jess), Luke E. Zajdel, Alyssa M. Zajdel and Michael Cox; three great grandsons, Emmett, Ryker and Leo; two sisters, Regina Zajdel and Carol Keenan both of Greensburg; and several nieces and nephews.  There will be no visitation or viewing.  Friends are invited to a funeral mass to be celebrated at 10 AM Thursday in St. Bruno Catholic Church, 1715 Poplar St., Greensburg.  Everyone should go directly to the church.  Military honors by American Legion Post 981 and entombment will follow in St. Clair Cemetery, Hempfield Township.  LEO M.
