Barbara E. "Boots" Oleyar, 95, formerly of Pleasant Unity, died Thursday, January 8, 2026 in Concordia Bethlen Home, Ligonier. She was born December 31, 1930 in Pleasant Unity, a daughter of the late Charles V. and Elizabeth A. (Hutter) Casteel. She was a graduate of Hurst High School class of 1950 and was a member of St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, Bradenville, In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Elias A. Oleyar, a granddaughter, Lauren E. Oleyar, her brothers, E. Wayne, C. Leonard Sr. and Carl D. Casteel and her sister, Mary Ellen Haas. She is survived by 6 children, Marian Person and husband James of Harrisburg, Elizabeth West of Latrobe, Peter Oleyar and wife Judy of Hilton Head, SC, Janet Kuhn of Latrobe, Jennifer Bowser and husband David of Greenville and Lou Ann Bucco and husband Joseph of Monroeville, 14 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Veronica Carlson and husband Ronald of Hillside and several nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to her divine liturgy to be celebrated at 11 AM Monday, January 12, 2026 in St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, 112 St. Mary’s Way, Bradenville, with The Rev. Athanasius C. Cherry, OSB as celebrant. Please go directly to the church. LEO M. BACHA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 2072 Route 130, Pleasant Unity in charge of arrangements. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church.
