Albert “Al” Vincent Casale, born July 31, 1958, passed peacefully on July 27, 2024, after a long and arduous battle following a massive stroke. Born in Greensburg, Pennsylvania as the second youngest of five siblings, Albert later established lasting roots in his beloved city of Charleston, South Carolina, where he resided for over 40 years. As a police officer and detective for the Charleston, Goose Creek and Berkeley County Sheriff’s Departments, Albert continued a tradition of public service that began during his time at The Citadel. Following his graduation in 1980, he served in the United States Marine Corps for 9 years and was stationed across the globe in places such as Japan, South Korea, Honduras, the Philippines, and, in true Marine fashion, several other destinations that he seldom mentioned and never boasted about. Whether it was abroad or domestically, Al brought an infectious, relaxed, and subtle charm that was immediately felt by all whenever he entered a room. Whether it was fishing off the coast of the Carolinas, deep frying whiskey-injected Butterball turkeys with his family at Thanksgiving or driving long trips in his RV with his dog riding shotgun, Al’s legacy is one defined by bettering the lives of everyone who was lucky enough to know him. Amongst his many professional accomplishments throughout his career, in 2021 Al notably helped to solve a 17-year cold murder case, bringing a criminal to justice and closure to the victim’s family, further cementing his legacy as a respected defender of truth, justice and the American way, and his service as a pillar of his community. Albert Casale is survived by his brothers, Henry and David; sisters, Jeanne and Maria; four nieces, five nephews, seven great nephews, and his cherished dog, Anastasia. He will be buried at Greensburg Catholic Cemetery, next to his dear predeceased parents, Henry and Genevieve Casale. Friends will be received from 1 to 4 PM Sunday, August 18, 2024, at the LEO M. BACHA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 516 Stanton Street, Greensburg. A funeral liturgy will begin at 11 AM on Monday, August 19, 2024, in the funeral home. Inurnment will follow in Greensburg Catholic Cemetery with full military honors accorded by the VFW Post No. 33, Greensburg Honor Guard. www.bachafh.com
