Some of my fondest childhood memories are visiting my grandmother and my Aunt Mary Louise – especially at Christmas. I admired her perfectly coiffed hair (oh, those curls!) and her attention to make-up – that prissiness is something I, too, inherited, and see reflected in my two granddaughters.
Mary Louise was a wonderful baker – her cookies, especially her Italian knots and pizelles (I still have her recipe and recently gave it to my daughter – I think of her every year when I make them for Christmas). I know she didn’t always have it easy, but she seemed to make the best of any situation – and for that, I will miss her.
