Kathalyn A. “Lyn” O’Brien, 81, of Greensburg, died Saturday, July 22, 2017 in Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg. She was born June 27, 1936 in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late Robert and Loretta (Cooper) Schneider. Prior to retirement she had been the Westmoreland County Treasurer. She had served on the Reach Family Support Group, Inc., the Westmoreland Mental Health Association Board and the Threshold Board of Directors. She was also involved in Reach Psychosocial Rehabilitation Center Board and the Westmoreland Case Management and Support, Inc. She had been elected to five terms on the Pennsylvania Democratic State Committee and had been appointed by President Jimmy Carter to the Whitehouse Conference on Women and Labor Issues. Kathalyn was also a member of several Westmoreland County Democratic Clubs. She was Lutheran by faith. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her son: Dennis J. O’Brein in 2007; two brothers: Henry Earl Devine and Clifford Olney Devine; and her former husband: John D. O’Brein. She is survived by two sons: Donald H. O’Brien and wife Christina of Mt. Pleasant and Robert D. O’Brien of Latrobe; her daughter: Myra D. O’Brien Allicia of Nashville, TN; 7 grandchildren: Denyel D. O’Brien and husband Mark Lawton, Andreas Allica, Shawn O’Brien and wife Lauren, Jonathan O’Brien, Breanna O’Brien, Casey O’Brien and Alida Gettemy and husband Matt; 4 great-grandchildren: Michael O’Brien, McKenna Gettemy, Rian Gettemy and Claire Gettemy; her brother: Jay Devine of Pittsburgh; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM Wednesday at the LEO M. BACHA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 516 Stanton Street, Greensburg. A funeral service will begin at 11 AM Thursday in the funeral home with The Rev. Almon Birt officiating. Interment will follow in St. Clair Cemetery, Greensburg. www.bachafh.com
