Donald William Skergan, of Greensburg, died peacefully at home Sunday, May 6, 2018. He was born in Scottdale on August 25, 1929. Don retired from ABB, South Greensburg in 1994 where he had worked as an Electrical Engineer for 58 years. The tributes from those at his retirement dinner attest to his services for ABB and the goodwill of his fellow employees. While his children were growing, Don was active in their sports, Little League and Carbon Girls Softball. He enjoyed music and sang in the choirs at St Paul Parish, Diocesan choir, and the Friday Evening Music Club. He also performed with several Drum and Bugle Corps. Don was a firefighter and member of the Carbon Volunteer Fire Department. Don was also active in the American Legion Post #981, South Greensburg, Knights of Columbus, The Roosevelt Club and other fraternal organizations. Don's garden yielded fine vegetables for his table and also an abundance for his friends. Don, with Audrey, enjoyed traveling, especially to visit their children. Then there was golf, bowling, YMCA, church work, being a helpful friend and brother, and amusing all of us with his unique sense of humor. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Veronica (Ryan) Skergan; his brothers, Joseph, Vincent, James and Philip; and his sisters, Marge and Janice. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Audrey (Patchell) Skergan; his sister, Geraldine Poole; and his sister-in-law, Roberta Skergan. He is also survived by his four children and their spouses; Clark Edelbrock and Mary Ann Skergan-Edelbrock, Kathleen Ryan and Craig Cook, Dr. Patricia Skergan and Dr. James Helmer, and Timothy and Tuyet Skergan. He will be missed by seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 4 to 8 PM Thursday at the LEO M. BACHA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 516 Stanton Street, Greensburg. Prayers will begin at 9:30 AM Friday in the funeral home, followed by a funeral mass to be celebrated at 10 AM in St. Paul Parish, Greensburg. Private interment will take place in St. Pius X Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant with Full Military Honors accorded by the American Legion Post #981, South Greensburg. The Knights of Columbus Council 1480 will conduct a memorial service at 6 PM Thursday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice, the American Cancer Society or Excela Hospice. www.bachafh.com
