Raymond S. and Elizabeth M. (Puskar) Kowatch, formerly of New Hartford, N.Y., passed away in New York, July 2, 2017 and June 11, 2016, respectively. United in marriage for 53 years, Raymond and Elizabeth were beloved parents, grandparents, and siblings. Raymond was born Aug. 20, 1928 , in United, a son of the late Lewis and Margaret (Spisak) Kowatch. He graduated from Hurst High School, class of 1946, and then faithfully served in the Air Force during the Korean War era. Raymond went on to earn graduate degrees in physics from Waynesburg College and St. Vincent College. He was an electrical engineer forGeneral Electric, then for the Defense Department at Griffiss Air Force Base in Rome, N.Y. until his retirement in 1994.Elizabeth was born Feb. 11, 1933, in Trauger, the daughter of the late John and Helen (Szallars) Puskar.She graduated from Hurst High School, class of 1951, and Latrobe Hospital School of Nursing in 1954. Elizabeth was a registered nurse and surgical nurse at Latrobe Hospital, then in local practice. Raymond and Elizabeth were married on Sept. 14. 1963. Both Raymond and Elizabeth were proud to be previous members of the former Forty Martyrs Catholic Church,Trauger, had been longtime members of St. Patrick's Church, Clayville, N.Y. and were communicants of Our Lady of the Rosary Church in New Hartford, N.Y. Raymond and Elizabeth are survived by a son, Ray Kowatch and wife Patricia, of Port Ewen, N.Y.; two daughters, Mary Lou Daze and husband Daryl, of Hartland, Wisc. and Nancy Kowatch, of Cortland, N.Y.; two grandchildren, Olivia and Joshua Kowatch; and many nieces,nephews and cousins. Raymond is also survived by three sisters, Ethel Caverno and husband John, of Savannah, Ga., Margaret Kashin and husband James, of Pittsburgh and Delores Heinnickel and husband Alquin, of Crabtree; and sister-in-law, Gwendolyn Kowatch, of Y.T., Canada.Raymond was predeceased by beloved sisters, Irene Yasher and Eleanor Kowatch; and brother, Lewis Kowatch. Elizabeth is also survived by her brother, Michael Puskar and wife Marlene, of Alexandria, Va.; and sisters-in-law, Julia Puskar, of Greensburg and Virginia Puskar, of Trauger. She was predeceased by beloved brothers, Donald and Jack Puskar. Friends will be received from10 to 11 a.m.Saturdayat theBACHA FUNERAL HOME INC., 2072 Route 130, Pleasant Unity, at which time a memorial liturgy will be held for both Raymond and Elizabeth with the Rev. John A. Sedlak as celebrant. Inurnment will follow in Forty Martyrs Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant Township.
