James M. Murtland, 79, of Greensburg, died Monday, December 25, 2017.  He was born August 25, 1938 in Greensburg, a son of the late James and Katherine (Furin) Murtland.  Prior to retirement he had been employed by SuperValu in New Stanton.  He was a member of St. Paul Parish, Greensburg, Fort Allen Fireman’s Club, Hecla Sportsman’s Club, Roosevelt Club of Hempfield Township, Pennsylvania National Guard, and was a life member of Greensburg Volunteer Fire Department Hose Co. No. 8, and Pennsylvania State, Westmoreland County, and Western PA Fireman’s Associations.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Murtland; his sister, Barbara Whitehead; and his grandson, Ryan Mangan.  He is survived by his son, James Marcus Murtland and wife Kimberly of Greensburg; three daughters, Tracie Lynn Aldape and husband Paul of Torrance, California, Rebecca Ann Murtland of Greensburg, and Jennifer Marie Boyer and husband Robert of Alexandria, Virginia; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Katherine Panichella and husband James and Mary Jane Murtland, all of Greensburg; and several nieces and nephews.  Friends will be received from 4 to 8 PM Thursday at the LEO M. BACHA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 516 Stanton Street, Greensburg.  A funeral liturgy will begin at 11 AM Friday in the funeral home.  Interment will follow in Westmoreland County Memorial Park.  The family would like to thank Redstone Highlands for their care and compassion.  The Greensburg Volunteer Fire Department will conduct a memorial service at 6:30 PM Thursday in the funeral home.  www.bachafh.com
