Clarence Thomas “Tom” Cross, 74, of Rector, died Sunday, December 17, 2017 at his home.  He was born November 20, 1943 in Greensburg, a son of the late Gerald Dixon and Margaret E. “Betty” (Hutchinson) Cross.  After graduating from Greensburg High School in 1961, Tom enlisted in the United States Air Force and served for eight years.  He was a jet mechanic during the Vietnam War and was injured in Thailand.  Tom served as a role model for sobriety to countless alcoholics.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Clarence M. and Elizabeth (Helman) Hutchinson; his sister, Diane “Dixie” Kutzer; and his companion, Sue (Bates) Gebicki.  He is survived by his son, Donald “Skeeter” Cross of Montana; his daughter, Karla (Cross) Chavez and husband Joseph of Eagle River, Alaska; four grandchildren, Tia Dawn Cross, and Kayli, Tristan and Kaycee Chavez; his great-granddaughter, Peyton; his sister, Rebecca Derek of Greensburg; his cousins, Bill and Fred McBride; his nephew, Dixie’s son, Tommy Kutzer; his niece, Rebecca’s daughter, Amber Derek; his great-nephew, Declan; his dog, Moo; and friends Rick and June.  Per Tom’s request, there will be no public visitation.  A celebration of life will be held at 3 PM Friday, December 22 at the 406 H & R Camp, 109 Wilkins Road, Rector.  Interment will be private.  Tom was the best looking guy to ever play ball in Fifth Ward, Greensburg and would like everyone to take a kid to a Pirate game in his memory.  LEO M.
