Charles E. “Sonny” Hays, 88, of Hempfield Township, passed away Thursday, March 22, 2018 at Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg. Sonny was born April 27, 1929 in Greensburg, a son of the late Edgar and Anna (Paulin) Hays. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Marjorie Trenney. Sonny is survived by his loving sister, Eleanor Pelerose; a brother-in-law, Lawrence Pelerose, both of Greensburg; a sister-in-law, Rose Frye, of Florida; and many nieces and nephews. Sonny was a retired draftsman from Brown-Boveri, South Greensburg. He was a talented man who could repair just about anything. He loved being outdoors, cutting grass, planting and chopping down trees. He had an unconditional love for his wife Dorothy of 61 years and took great care of her up until her death in December 2017. He was a member of the SNPJ Club, Roosevelt Club, American Legion Post #981 and was a Korean War veteran. Friends will be received from 4 to 8 PM Sunday at the LEO M. BACHA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 516 Stanton Street, Greensburg. A funeral service will begin at 11 AM Monday in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Westmoreland County Memorial Park. His niece Cindy would like to thank Dr. Belski and all the nurses on the 6th floor of the Intensive Care Unit who took great care of Sonny.
